New partnership with the City of Brampton, Canada

We recently visited the City of Brampton outside of Toronto, Canada to sign a memorandum of understanding, donate cricket kit and visit local programmes.

The City of Brampton have been working with the ECB and other international cricket committees to develop new cricket grounds, improve their wickets and convert existing baseball diamonds to meet the growing demand of new pitches.

There are currently 20 pitches over 15 sites – five of which are natural turf wickets, where they have over 56 teams competing in adult leagues with over 19 on the waiting list. This is all possible due to a passionate volunteer network pushing this forward along with a recreation department, Mayor Patrick Brown and British Consul General, Fouzia Younis making this happen.

In 2024, they launched their youth league alongside summer cricket camps enabling more young people to access the sport. They are also working in conjunction with local schools to allow students to access the grounds when they’re not being used by league teams. Cricket is fast-growing in the City of Brampton and there are future plans to create an indoor dome to allow cricket to be played all-year-round.

We recently visited the City of Brampton to donate almost 120kg of cricket kit, to break the barrier of young people not being able to play the sport due to a lack of kit or equipment. This was presented to the City of Brampton in conjunction with a signing of a memorandum of understanding, that states:

The Lord’s Taverners and City of Brampton, agree to enter a closer cooperation partnership with the desired goal of deepening a relationship and friendship by agreeing to explore, promote, and support exchanges and cooperative activities focussed on advancing youth cricket in Brampton.

Becky Howie, Head of Major Donors and Special Events at Lord's Taverners expressed It was a privilege to be a guest of the City of Brampton and to see the great work they’re achieving growing the game of cricket. I was really impressed with the funding dedicated to the development of grounds to allow more people of all ages to get involved and access the sport. I’m very excited to see this partnership grow.
