Sophie

Sophie plays cricket for Staffordshire Super 1s and is a Super 9s development player. She has a passion for women and girls’ cricket and for women and girls to have empowering, engagement and involvement within the game. Sophie experiences Sensory Moderation Disorder, anxiety and Autism to name a few, and finds cricket and sport helps her to manage her day-to-day with these conditions. Cricket has allowed her to build a strong social network, build confidence and manage her emotions. Sophie was influenced by her late mother four years ago to give cricket a go. She has always had a passion for sport and has always wanted to try new opportunities. Sophie’s favourite part of the game is batting and getting lots of runs! When she first joined, she was very nervous and wasn’t sure if she belonged, as there weren’t many girls at her Super 1s hub, but as time went by, she has gained in confidence and feels more comfortable that she does belong. In her spare time, she enjoys socialising with friends and loved ones, going out for food and drinks, attending church, watching Stoke City try to play football, playing hockey, going to the gym and watching tv! Sophie really enjoys playing cricket and it has changed her life for the better. She wouldn’t know where she would be without it. Sophie knows she has a bright future because she has cricket in her life!
