Brendon Parr named Disability Cricketer of the Year
England physical disability squad batter Brendon Parr has been named the Lord's Taverners Disability Cricketer of the Year for 2024.
The award, now in its eighth year, showcases the development and contribution of disability cricketers to the wider game. It is presented to an individual not just for performances on the pitch, but also work off the field to further develop opportunities and raise awareness of disability cricket.
It’s been a fantastic year for Brendon who was part of the Pirates winning squad in this year's Disability Premier League. Towering over the competition, both in height (6ft 5in) and output: his 384-run haul across the group games came at an average of 76.8 and an eye-watering strike rate of 167.69.
The 32-year-old Parr performances also included an unbeaten 61-ball 103 in the last DPL group game against the Tridents - which turned into a dress rehearsal for this year's final which the Pirates won by 32 runs.
His year has also included impressive touring performances with the England PD side in India earlier this year.
"It's a fantastic honour to receive this award - especially to receive it at such a prestigious event, " explained Parr. "There have been times in recent years when I didn't think I'd be able to move forward with my cricket and have had to overcome a number of challenges, but this year has been brilliant for me and amazing to be part of the Pirates and England squads.
"Disability cricket continues to grow and it's important we keep moving forward by creating opportunities for the game to grow and more people to play and I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey and for being presented with this award."
