Girls cricket the winner at Lord's
With close to 1,700 schools entering the U13 and U15 Lady Taverners indoor cricket competitions, their respective finals days at the MCC Indoor Academy at Lord’s brought the five regional winners from both age groups together to compete for the two national titles.
Tuesday’s U13 finals were also memorable as an all-female officiating team was appointed for the very first time for the indoor finals at Lord’s, a very proud moment.
Both days were extremely competitive and well supported by many friends and families. Standards continue to noticeably improve, with fielding really standing out this year. There were some outstanding catches backed up by excellent ground fielding and astute game management.
The Castle School (Somerset) won the U13s tournament with The Perse School (Cambridgeshire) as runners up, and Bede’s School (Sussex) won the U15s competition with St Swithun’s School (Hampshire) finishing as runners up.
Both The Castle School and Bede’s School went undefeated throughout the day and were deserved national champions of their respective competitions.
