Lord’s Taverners select Lucy Pearson as new Chair of Trustees
The Lord's Taverners are delighted to announce that it has selected Lucy Pearson as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees.
Lucy brings a wealth of experience to the role including a 25-year career in teaching, where she became the first female Head of Cheadle Hulme School in Cheshire. She played cricket for England from 1996 to 2005 and was twice named England Women's Cricketer of the Year (2000 and 2003).
A left-arm fast-medium opening bowler, her best performance came against Australia in 2003, becoming only the second English woman in over 70 years to take 11 wickets against Australia. Her international career included over 75 matches across Tests, ODIs and the first international T20 game played anywhere in the world before injury forced her to retire.
She continued to contribute to the sport as a director of the England and Wales Cricket Board from 2017-2023.
Lucy is currently Director of Education at the Football Association, a post she has held since 2018. She believes in the power of sport to act as a force for good and is committed to making it accessible to as many people as possible.
She will succeed Tim Luckhurst who will have completed his five-year term following the charity's AGM in May.
Speaking about her new role, Lucy said: "I am honoured to take up the role of a charity that has such a wonderful history and which delivers life changing experiences to thousands of young people across the country every day.
“Seeing the work of the charity over the past few years and its incredible impact, the Lord’s Taverners epitomises my four passions: learning, young people, inclusion and the power of sport to influence society.
“Across the country, the Lord's Taverners' programmes make a huge difference not just to the young people, but also their family and friends. And after visiting a programme last week, it is clear that the work of the charity leverages the power and joy of cricket to develop critical life skills such as being active, teamwork and promoting social inclusion, something that is as important to the family as much as it is to the individual.
“Having the chance to meet and be interviewed by some of the charity's youth ambassadors during the interview process was an absolute privilege. They were passionate about what the Lord's Taverners provides for them, and how it can add even more value to them and to many more young people. Hearing their views on the programmes, their voice will play a crucial role in the future of our work.
“I take up the mantle from Tim as Chair and will seek to continue to build on the transformational work of the Board of Trustees over the past few years to ensure the Taverners are well placed to meet the ever-changing needs of the disadvantaged and disabled young people we exist to support – and the thousands more who still need our help.
“I’d like to thank everyone who was part of the interview process. I’m excited at what the future holds for the charity and am really looking forward to meeting more of the members, supporters, partners and participants who make the Taverners such a special and respected organisation.”
The appointment comes following an extensive search and recruitment process led by the charity's independent Nominations Committee with the support of executive search specialists Kinsey Sears.
Current chair Tim Luckhurst added: "I'm humbled that our search for my successor attracted so many fantastic candidates and obviously delighted that Lucy wanted to join our trustee board and lead the Lord's Taverners as we strive to deliver more impactful programmes across the UK. Lucy's recruitment is a further endorsement of the direction of travel for the Taverners and the high regard it is held within the game of cricket."
