Robin Moors
Robin’s son, Adam, and long-term Taverners supporter Jonathan Hoffman paid a tribute to our former Chairman who sadly passed away recently.
I am very sad to inform members of the passing of our dear friend Robin Moors at the age of 93.
Robin was a great supporter of the Taverners, served on many committees and was our Chairman in 1988 and 1989, alongside president Sir Tim Rice.
As a keen golfer he was a member at Effingham golf club where he met Ken Barrington. Ken and his family became close friends. Robin was Captain in 1971 and then became Vice President. He was instrumental in setting up the Taverners Harry Secombe Golf Classic at Effingham, subsequently moving to Old Thorns and through Harry and Ken Barrington it was always attended by many stars of show business and cricket, and raised substantial sums for many years.
Professionally he was the founder of Robin Moors, Allnutt and partners, chartered architects. The firm was a happy and thriving one under his astute and kindly leadership. There were several awards, not least for the futuristic design of Bayer Pharmaceuticals new headquarters in Newbury.
Both Robin and his elegant late wife Cicely’s culinary skills were renowned, coupled with being the most generous entertainers. They retired to their roots in Dorset and here their kitchen garden thrived. Garden produce always served to perfection – and of course washed down with fine wines.
On behalf of our members may I send condolences to Robin’s family and friends. His rich Dorset tones, great sense of fun and humour will be long remembered.
