The difference you can make
Did you know that 1.2 million young people with a disability access sport rarely or not at all? Lack of community opportunities can often lead to social isolation and low self-esteem. Our community cricket programme, Super 1s, gives young people with a disability the chance to play regular sport with their peers while improving confidence and independence, as well as allowing them to enjoy the benefits of playing sport.
Any amount you can raise will make a positive impact:
- £15 could allow one young person to attend an inclusive cricket programme for a whole month.
- £50 could cover venue hire for a week, and additionally allow one young person, to attend an inclusive cricket programme for a month.
- £100 could allow seven young people to attend life changing, inclusive cricket sessions for a whole month, completely free.
Success stories
Last year, Joseph used the skills he learnt at his Super 1s sessions to raise an amazing £135 by throwing and catching a cricket ball 100 times.
Sam, from Somerset was also inspired to join the #Super100s team after benefitting from regular Super 1s training sessions and matches at our Yeovil Hub in Somerset. As a keen cricket fan, Sam also doesn’t mind a bit of hiking so he took on the challenge of completing a personal record of 100km in 10 days. With the support of his family and his dog Ted, Sam set off last summer to trek across the hills of the Lake District. Despite torrential rain on day seven, he completed the challenge and was even able to wear his shorts (just!) walking along the coastal paths near the Durdle Door. Sam walked in total 104km, ate an undisclosed number of pies and chips and raised an amazing £844 in total - enough to fund a week’s venue hire for 24 hubs!
‘Super 1s has allowed me to progress, because I know no one is going to judge me.’
Georgie has cerebral palsy, which affects her speech, balance and coordination. It was hard for Georgie at school, as she was often left out and she lost a lot of her self-confidence. This all changed when she discovered disability sport, and started attending our Super 1s hub in Essex. Georgie loves helping everyone out at the Super 1s hub, bringing the laughs and being a shining role model for the other young people who are struggling.
